FIRE COMMISSIONERS
The Albion Joint Fire District is a political subdivision of the State of New York, governed by a five-member Board of Fire Commissioners. These elected officials are responsible for the overall governance, financial oversight, budget approval, policy setting, and strategic direction of the District. The Board ensures the district operates efficiently, transparently, and in the best interest of the taxpayers and residents we serve.

Albert P. Cheverie (Al)
Al was one of the commissioners initially appointed by the Town of Gaines. He has been a member of the Albion Fire Department since 1989. He has held several elected and appointed offices in the Department.
He is employed by Health Research Inc. as a Public Health Continuing Education Coordinator. Prior to that he held the position of Hospital Preparedness Representative serving the nine counties of the Finger Lakes Region. He is also an Outreach Fire Instructor assigned to Orleans County.

David Buczek
David Buczek currently serves as Vice Chair and Fire Commissioner for the Albion Joint Fire District, overseeing fire service operations and supporting initiatives that strengthen emergency response for the community. He currently is a Lead Program Manager in Emergency Planning for National Grid where he develops and implements strategies for disaster recovery, crisis management, and community resilience. In this role, David focuses on planning and coordinating emergency response efforts to ensure continuity of operations during critical incidents. Previously, he worked as a Distribution Line Supervisor, managing utility operations across Orleans County and overseeing critical infrastructure projects that supported reliable power delivery.
David holds a Master of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Energy Utility Management and Disaster & Emergency Planning from Buffalo State University, along with certifications in Project Management and Energy Utility Technology. His background includes extensive experience in crisis management, disaster recovery planning, and utility operations. In addition to his commissioner duties, David volunteers as a firefighter with the Albion Fire Department and remains committed to serving and protecting his community.

Derek J. Howes
Derek is an Albion native, began his career in the fire protection business and became a firefighter in 2019 in Niagara County. Derek served on the Executive Board at the Town of Niagara Active Hose fire company for four years, along with holding the Fire Lieutenant position for two years simultaneously. After 7 years in Niagara County, Derek moved back home and became a member of the Albion Fire Department as an interior Firefighter.
Derek has had a career in the building fire protection and security business for 14 years and is a Project Manager/Estimator full time. His duties as described entail managing and securing life safety equipment based on NFPA requirements and NYS Fire codes & Building codes.

Kevin Sheehan
Kevin was elected as Albion joint fire commissioner January 2025 for a three year term. Kevin is a member of the Albion fire department and is a 2014 presidents award for the department. almost Kevin‘s entire life. He has been involved with first responders as a US Army veteran, lifeguard/Water safety instructor Honolulu Hawaii chapter of authorization. Life member of COVA, a former sergeant in the Orleans County auxiliary Police, past code enforcement officer/fire marshal for the Village, Of Albion and NYS CEDAR representative for Orleans County.
Kevin‘s work experience is he is a retired Local 13 plumbers and pipe fitters 33 years, retired 10 years Western New York veterans administration, retired 8 1/2 years New York State Department of corrections as a civilian employee, OSHA compliance consultant with York Safety, Alpina yogurt plant Batavia, New York maintenance mechanic and Mayor/Deputy Mayor/trustee for The Village Of Albion. Kevin is also a member of many social clubs in the Albion area including Albion VFW, Albion Legion, Albion Elks, Albion Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s archers club and Rochester ancient order of Hibernians.

Victoria Tabor
Victoria Tabor serves as Treasurer of the Fire District, bringing more than 25 years of experience in the finance industry. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from St. John Fisher College and currently works as a Financial Advisor. During her career, she achieved a significant milestone as the first woman to be promoted to Vice President at a Brighton-based securities firm.
In addition to her financial expertise, Victoria is an interior firefighter, demonstrating a strong commitment to public service and community safety. She also serves as Investment Chair for the Albion Alumni Foundation and is a proud graduate of Albion High School.
Outside of her professional and civic roles, Victoria enjoys traveling, hot air ballooning, and stamp collecting. She is the mother of two grown children and remains deeply invested in supporting both her local community and future generations.
